The Experience
This is my signature tour, the one I am best known for. They call me the Bird Whisperer, and on this trip you will see why. Montserrat is home to well over a hundred bird species, and the star of them all is the Montserrat Oriole, our national bird. It lives nowhere else on earth and is one of the rarest birds in the Caribbean. On a good morning I can call to the birds, and they answer.
Beyond the Oriole, we look for regional rarities like the Forest Thrush, the Pearly-eyed and Scaly-breasted Thrashers, the Brown Trembler, and the Bridled Quail-Dove, plus all three of our hummingbirds — the Purple-throated Carib, the Green-throated Carib, and the Antillean Crested Hummingbird. Bring your camera, because few visitors leave without the photos and the memories.
“He's famous for calling down the birds. Scriber explained what we could see and found things we couldn't. We ended on a local lady's balcony inside the forest, watching hummingbirds dart around. Magical.”— Fairlocks

The fine print
Before you go
Wear
Closed shoes and muted, neutral colours, since bright clothing can spook the birds. Long sleeves help in the forest.
Bring
Binoculars if you have them, a camera (a zoom lens is wonderful), water, insect repellent, and a hat.
Timing
We set off early, in the cool of the morning when the birds are most active — around 6am in summer and 7am in winter. Check the booking calendar for the exact start time.
Weather
A forest walk, so paths can be muddy after rain. We go in suitable conditions.
